The St. Andrew’s Society Los Angeles was established in 1930 and is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote Scottish history, traditions, and culture by developing educational and charitable undertakings that nurture relations between the Society, the people of Los Angeles and the greater community.
Background: In 2013 the St. Andrew’s Society Los Angeles (SASLA) received a generous gift from Barbara Grant in memory of her husband John Grant, a past president of the Society. The Society wishes to honor the purpose of this gift by making funding opportunities available to worthy recipients in the form of matching grants which will be awarded based on the following criteria. The total dollar amount of this matching grant awarded to any one individual or organization may not exceed $2,500.
Program Overview: SASLA offers a matching grants program to provide financial assistance to individuals and organizations in the Southern California community who wish to further enhance their work in Scottish history, traditions, crafts and other cultural pursuits.
Applicant Eligibility: An individual or an organization sponsor who is a resident of Southern California (and must prove local residency) and who can demonstrate evidence of involvement in Scottish history, traditions or other relevant cultural pursuits, may submit an Application with Grant amount requested not to exceed $2,500.
• Grants are reviewed upon submission by the SASLA Grant & Charitable Giving Committee
• Approval of final Grant amount awarded rests with the recommendation of the Grant & Charitable Giving Committee and
approval by the Board of Trustees.
• Decisions by the Board of Trustees are final and are not subject to appeal.
How to Apply:
• Individuals who meet eligibility may submit an application using the attached cover sheet, a project budget and an
application narrative not to exceed 500 words.
• Applicants may apply at any time during the year, however funding is limited and when the annual maximum dollar amount
in a given category is reached, applicants will be so notified and be given the opportunity to be reconsidered in future years.
Application Narrative:
• Describe the specific project, event or occasion for which you are seeking funds.
• Include a project budget detailing revenues or other contributions from other sources at least equal to the requested
amount (Matching Grant).
• Explain who the funds will benefit the above project, event or occasion.
• Describe what the award would allow you to do that otherwise would not be a part of this project, event or occasion and
how SASLA would be informed of your progress in achieving your goal.
Funding Criteria:
• Originality of purpose, and quality of narrative.
• Feasibility of reaching stated outcome/s.
• Evidence that the grant is being used as an enhancing not enabling grant.
• Agreement that SASLA may use your name/information/photographs in its Society website, social media and other
promotional and advertising vehicles.
